SEED Change

Outdoor installation sited in Stocznia Gdańsk (Gdansk), as part of The Memory of Water, Creative Europe Project. Gdansk, Poland. June 2019.

This work was made as one of three participatory artworks in three European cities as the selected Irish artist for the Memory of Water Project with Ormston House and the European River Cities Network. The installation consists of a 2.8 meter wide 'garden' containing sand, compost and seeded clay tools cast from objects used in the shipbuilding industry.

The installation was made with participation from 3rd year Geography students at the University of Gdansk, local artists, and the Baltic Sea Cultural Centre. Over time, the 'tools' will collapse into the ground and wildflowers will take their place thus highlighting the importance on nature in the city and contributing to the re-imagining and rewilding of the post-industrial shipyard as a new green space.
